| The flag was at half staff because of the Sikh Temple shootings that day |
I picked Tom up after work on Wednesday and we headed to Fort Myer to see the
Twilight Tattoo which is a performance combining the "Old Guard" and the U.S. Army Band. It is free to the public all summer and it's one of the things Public Affairs handles. So far Tom's experience at his new job has been mostly signing a bunch of papers and trying to get email set up so it was fun to go see something interesting. Again, we were very early so had time to walk around the base a bit.
Fort Myer borders Arlington Cemetery in Virginia and was an early Army post during the Civil War.

| The Army Band has vocalists as well. If I had known this kind of gig existed, I may have enlisted! |
This particular performance was a tribute to Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta. A couple of speakers who paid tribute to him and then the show. Lots of past dignitaries and security. You can always tell when a big shot is coming to something as the secret service shows up ahead of time to check the place out. Lots of black SUV's as well. We see them coming and going from Andrews AFB quite a bit where Air Force One is parked.
