Tom's Work Award and Farewell

Wrapping up farewells and Tom's office was one of the last.  They are not happy to see him go.

Too Much To Do!

Time is quickly approaching for movers so we started trying to plan what we could live with for 21 days while we wait for them to deliver our stuff to us in UT.  A lot of our stuff was still in boxes so we didn't need to worry about that and they had to pack everything else.

When they showed up.....THAT's when it got serious!

We had some things we still wanted to do before leaving so we drove to Annandale, VA and picked up Tom's Uncle Bill for a nice lunch....
 We went to the Newseum......
 Part of the Berlin Wall.....

 Great views from the balcony

We spent several hours there and could have spent more.  Fascinating, if you love history and news.
And one final breakfast with Ernest, Rachel and baby Dylan.  Oh, how I miss him!

The Washington Monument and The National Press Club

So since the Washington Monument re-opened it hasn't been easy to get tickets to go up in it but we finally scheduled a time and headed inside.

Cool mosaic!
Of course, the weather wasn't great so the view wasn't perfect but it was still pretty amazing from atop the monument!

They had these cool maps on each side of the monument....wish I had had this when we first got to DC so I could figure out places in correlation with other places!

You used to be able to walk the stairway but that left the walls open to vandals so now you have to use the elevator.  In certain areas as you're coming down you can see these tributes along the wall from the glass elevator.
Tom had won a gift certificate to the Fourth Estate restaurant inside the National Press Club in a 5K we ran so we headed over there to have some lunch.

The food was yummy and then we wandered around.  Tons of photos to look at of people who have spoken there and events that have happened.  So much history!

They had a whole wall of important front pages stamped on leather

Well, and JT had been there so you KNOW it's important!

We wandered a bit after and happened on the Old Post Office Building which Donald Trump (notice the subtle signage) has purchased and is turning into offices and a hotel I believe.  It's a great building!
