Day 4- Nauvoo

We knew we wanted to spend an entire day and evening in Nauvoo because there was so much to do.  We found this darling little place and settled in.

Little snack and tea kitchenette right off of our room

We started the day at the temple where mom and dad went in to do a session.  While they were there I wandered around the shops and temple grounds.

This was a Catholic church just a block from the temple

Happily our hotel was right up the street so they could change clothes and we could head back to
the visitor's center where they had some very talented missionaries.  They started with an acapella number in the lobby of the center then we went into the theatre for a musical production.

The grounds were really pretty as well

After that we went to the Nauvoo Hotel for a yummy buffet dinner.  Oh my gosh!  So many wonderful choices but the prime rib was to DIE for.  The place was decorated so cute with different themes in each room.

We were definitely fed for the evening so we went back down the street for the evening shows featuring ALL the missionaries.  I told mom and dad they need to go on this mission.  They would LOVE it!

We drove down the road for one more show before bedtime.  This was just the senior missionaries.  Some of them were pretty good and others....not so much but bless them, they were having a good time and I'm sure when they signed up to be missionaries they didn't know theatre was going to be part of the bargain!

Day 3

We had heard on the news about a tornado that had gone through a town called Wessington Springs, SD about 30 miles from where we had spent the night so we headed out of our way a bit to go see it.  I've never seen the aftermath up close and personal.  Pretty creepy how it could destroy one place and completely miss another next door.  We found the bank where they were taking donations but all their power and things were still wacky so it took a while.  Very sad.

Next up was the Corn Palace where everything is made of corn husks, kernels, you name it they use all of it.  Different colors and types of corn that are harvested specifically for this place.

Headed to Omaha, Nebraska and another Mormon historical site, Winter Quarters where a senior missionary showed up through the visitor's center and we walked around the grounds of the temple.

Gorgeous stained glass windows
Much of our drive through this area looked a lot like this:
