Labor Day Weekend

Tom took half a day off on Friday.  The weather was gorgeous so we decided to take advantage and head back to Sandy Point beach to do some more open water swimming.  Thought we would have to fight the holiday crowds but there were very few people there.

Dave went with us because he'd had no open water training yet.  But of course because he's 23 years old, he took off and left us in his wake!

We took lunch and enjoyed a few hours on the beach just talking as well.  Dave works as a butler for the British Ambassador and lives in the British Embassy.  He has great stories (that he's allowed to tell) and has had a very interesting career path already.  He also worked in Buckingham Palace.  Anyway, he's a lot of fun to be with (his cute wife Katy was working then had something else that night) so when we got back to our place he and Tom checked their GPS times with the computer while I fixed dinner for us all.  A fun day!

We had volunteered to be in charge of the following day's workout as all our leaders were out of town or had visiting guests.  Tom drove with his bike and breakfast goodies so he could get his workout in early.  Dave decided to meet him and do his early as well. Dave can also apparently take photos while he's cycling!

I took the Metro into town then rode over to Hains Point to watch their bikes while they ran and to wait for the others who were arriving at 8 AM.  We had decided to do the full bike and run portion of the triathlon so we road 16 miles and ran a full 5K.

We brought along some post race nutrition (okay, I bought the Krispy Kremes from a guy doing a fundraiser at an intersection- not so healthy) so we sat around and had a little fellowship for a while after.  While we were cleaning up the food a girl we didn't know came up to us.  We offered her some food and she asked if we were there every weekend!  Turned out her name was Frankie and she works at the mini-golf right there in Hains Point.  We gave her the donuts to share with her co-workers along with some of the other food.  She told us to come and enjoy mini-golf for free sometime!

I don't know if I've mentioned that Tom and I are now in charge of the Connections Table at church.  Sunday morning we had our first meeting with our team to go over training, best practices, questions and of course.....eat.  We have a great, fun group who are all awesome and who are great at welcoming visitors and new attendees.  Our job is to get the newbies plugged in to small groups and service opportunities.

The past few Sundays we've been heading to Tom's office after church for him to catch up on some work.  I usually read or get caught up on paperwork but the past couple of weeks he had a ton of shipment items that needed to be gone through and inventoried.

Oh.  And I got to put together this awesome desk:

But it took a little bit of time........

Monday we did a quick Metro ride into Chinatown to CitySports to check out their sales for a few things we needed, then back home, into the car and a ride to the beach.  We did run into many more people but still enjoyed our swim, lunch and time on the beach.
