Visiting DelHoyos and Nats Game

So the plan for Monday was to go to the DC temple then go visit Vicky.  Well, for some reason the GPS took us the wrong way and it was going to be out of our way to go to the temple so we headed straight to visit Vicky and Serge.

 We enjoyed their beautiful backyard....

Their grandson Christian who I only know through his mom Heather's blogs was visiting so it was fun to get to meet him.  Darling kid!

 Playing with Serge's drone......
We finally got home then jumped on the metro to meet Tom at the Nats game.

 Love those wacky presidents!
And it was Bryce Harper bobble head night for the first 2500 people......that was us!

National Cathedral with Parentals

On Sunday, Tom and I were working the Connections Table at church so we took off early and left the car for mom and dad so they could attend our local ward which is right up the street from our apartment.  We all got home about the same time and Mom & dad had met our missionary friends who invited them to a potluck the ward was having for lunch.  So we hurried over and got to visit with the missionaries again as I updated them on my flood issues and also got to have a yummy lunch.

After changing clothes we decided to go drive by the National Cathedral, but when we got there discovered that it's free on Sundays so we went in to look around AND visited the Bishop's garden which is just outside.

I want a yard that looks like this.....

On the way home we stopped at Gravelly Point which is right next to Reagan National Airport.  The planes come right over the top of you and it can be a little bit creepy.

Saturday in DC with Mom & Dad

We hopped the Metro and headed into the city
They were setting up in front of the capitol for the fourth of July show.

We stopped at the Botanical gardens then had a picnic out front that we'd brought from home.

We walked quite a few blocks down the mall and happened onto The Folklife Festival.

Unfortunately it was one of those humid DC days where you don't realize you're getting dehydrated and mom got a little woozy.  Thought she was going to pass out there for a minute but we got her more water and had her lie down in the shade for a bit until she was feeling better and we could hop the Metro for home.

Day 5 Plus One

Wrapped up our last day through Illinois, West Virginia, VA, DC and finally into Maryland!
 Crossed Mississippi and Missouri rivers........

Stopped at Tamarack Arts Center in WV to take a look at all the local artisans had to offer.  Mom and dad wanted to get this train for Nixon but alas it wouldn't fit in the trunk.

Oh, how we loved Steak and Shake when we lived in Alabama so when we passed one on our way home I forced them to stop.  It didn't disappoint!  Nor did the gorgeous Shenandoah national park

Phew!!!  We FINALLY arrived after giving mom and dad a taste of coming into town during rush hour traffic and spent the next day having down time.. just relaxing, swimming, and getting groceries at the base.  We also happened onto a car wash so rewarded the new car with a nice clean beginning since she did so well traveling across the US.
We also stopped to see if we could check out Air Force One.  The guard ran out from the his station and asked us to delete the photos.  I thought I did but apparently not as it showed up here.  Yikes. Hope mom doesn't go to jail.
